From the same state [Tennessee] came James P. Boswell, and his children, as follows: William, Joseph, James, John, Washington, Timothy, Sally, Phoebe and Cynthia. Upon certain occasions, the old man would style himself "Jimmie Pepper," and many will remember him better by that name. Joseph is now living in Mount Vernon, Ill., and William, Timothy and Sally in this township, the latter the widow of Richard Jenkins in 1884 in Wayne, IL. William served as a private in the Civil War from August 13, 1862 through May 30, 1863 in Company D of the IL 110th Consolidated Infantry.

In 1887 Boswell said that he first voted for Democrat Andrew Jackson in 1828, last voted for Republicans James Blaine & John A. Logan in the 1884 presidential election.  All four of his sons participated in the Civil War and one died.  Mr. Boswell chews tobacco, but doesn't drink.  He lives with son-in-law Silas Johnson. In religion he prefers Free Will Baptists, but doesn't attend church.
